Family Reunion ‘08

Ah, yes, the Family Reunion (I know it should not be capitalized, but I feel like it deserves some attention). So, one might ask, how was the family reunion? In the whole view of things, it was fine. There was no fighting (at least on a large scale) between MK and I. I think our problems are getting sorted out — probably because Mom and Dad are planning to send her off to a boarding school in the middle of nowhere if she doesn’t shape up. I loved seeing all the relatives that I haven’t seen in a few years. There were so many 5 and unders! 28! Man, the adult relatives sure have been busy, if you know what I mean… So many little toddlers running about. I felt so old and tiny because almost everyone was towering over me.

But in the short view, there were some interesting highlights which made me feel either happy or a better person.

1.) Lisa buying Uncle Walter’s House: Okay, if you have ever seen the movie Second Hand Lions (which is a fabulous movie — I cried when I first saw it and I rarely cry. The movies/TV shows that I have ever cried during is My Dog Skip (I have a Welsh Corgi), A Walk To Remember (I was bawling — one of my all time favorite movies), and when Jonathan Kent died in Smallville (for some reason that really touched my heart…). ANYWAY, continuing. In the movie Second Hand Lions, there are two rich uncles that own a pretty nice house. They spent most of their youth in South Africa fighting and experiencing amazing adventures. Now, I never knew Uncle Walter but he was a hunter and traveled all over the world.

His house is pretty big and full of animal heads and such. Now he’s been dead for a while and never married nor had children, so he left his house to his niece who basically did nothing with it. Until Lisa (one of my favorite cousins) another niece bought it since she is supposedly SUPER rich (which I never could tell because she acts so normal and non snotty) and is renovating the house so that she and her family can live there. Almost everyone on the island is excited because the niece basically let the house fall apart and Lisa is ACTUALLY trying to restore it. I wish I had brought my camera to take photos of it because it is beautiful. It’s also called “Happy Hill.”

2.) My underaged 2nd cousins getting drunk — Okay, this may sound mean but I found it as a boost to my ego since I, for one, have never, ever, ever dared to drink or even taste alcohol. I feel bad for Margaret who had the worse hangover possible…

Those are all the funny or special things that happened. Oh, my 40+ bachelor cousin may have found himself the best girlfriend yet… I only hope he keeps her!

     So, West Side Story ended on a happy note. I must say I think this is the best musical Mariemont has done (and I’m not saying this just because I had a good role…) Despite the tons of drama at the beginning over lead roles being awarded to a freshman and sophomore, the directors sure knew what they were doing. And it’s hard to believe that a month ago, the whole cast thought we were screwed because no one knew their lines!

    Opening night was the best opening night EVER according to L and M (directors). I have to agree with them. Other than Bernardo dropping Rosalina during the ballet scene — even though my dad was convinced it was part of the dance, it was great. The second night was pretty much a mess up. How? Well, Act 1 was a mess, lucky Act 2 was cleared up. Here is a list of what went wrong:

• Band was off in the timing — supposbably Limke could not hear the mics, so the band did not come in when they were suppose to messing up several scenes even more.
• Lights — The light people came up on the wrong times, especially after Bernardo and Riff died and the first act ended — you could see them getting up.
• Gladhand missing cue — Of course it HAD to be MK who missed her cue and missed her WHOLE SCENE BECAUSE SHE WAS ON THE FREAKN’ COMPUTER!!! Thank good A-Kup was able to cover for her…
• Party Dance – Action was unable to lift Grazellia onto his shoulders for part of the Jets dance…
• Light sabers, babies, chickens… — When Riff couldn’t remember what weapon to call, he would either say “light sabers,” “babies,” or “chickens”… lolz.
• Maria forgetting her song lines — I felt so bad for K. Poor thing…

     I got tons on compliments on my performance. These are some of my favorite quotes:

• “You gave me chills. You were so scary… But in a good way!” – some freshman
• “I would never want you to be my teacher. You are a nice person, but you scare the cr*p out of me when you are mad!” – another freshman
• “I think I need you to come in and yell at my 6th graders. They would listen to you.” – a 6th grade teacher
• “My boyfriend told me that ‘I would never want to get into a fight with her – she’s too scary when she’s mad.’ Then I said, ‘What makes it even scarier is that she takes taekwando too…’” – K. Blood~

     It was pretty fun. My sister and I were mistaken as either twins the whole time or people thought I was playing two roles and wearing a blonde wig. Seriously, we don’t look that much alike…

     Anyway, I love it and I’m excited for the fall play… I’ll be the only senior girl… ::sob::

West Side Story — Opening Night

    

  Excitement! West Side Story opens tonight and I couldn’t be more excited. (At least I am not freaking out like I did during The Crucible because those shallow cappies were coming.) I’m feeling slightly more confident about my performance since I always enjoy playing a character who gets to bitch at everyone. That’s how I get rid of my stress — yelling at hoodlums.

     My only real fear is that I will either forget a line, trip while I’m trying to stop Wes (Tony) from running off stage, or my mic will be on when I go off stage and I say something embarrassing. Other than that I am so ready. I love the t-shirts this year — they are very comfortable even though they are still two sizes too big. (That’s what happens when you are a size 0 and are very petite…) Ug….

VAA/Skype Ramble~

     I’ve been debating whether or not I should take a hiatus from VAAing until the summer due to major stress of school work and junior year in general. It’s not that I don’t have time to voice act nor that I have too many roles to handle or lines due (actually for once I have nothing due at all! It’s pretty amazing!), it’s just that I might be getting tired of it. I believe it’s because I am casted as the same type of character in everything I audition for — always a soft, spoken female or high-pitched girl or something like that. I seriously need to expand my vocal range because I am getting bored of voicing the same characters over and over again. Uggg….

     Also it’s the stress of holding auditions. I just get lazy with them… Seriously, I might take a break from holding projects or something. I’m not sure yet. I still need to finish my MAR clip and actually finish my Crazy Kilt lines and such. Maybe it’s me just being a pessimist.

     As my years of being a VAA member increase, I feel that I’m seeing so many n00bs being just, well, stupid, ignorant, and obsessive with their ego. Plus the drama has increased tenfold sometimes. I doubt any n00b has figure out that completing a whole series fandub is basically impossible, especially for a n00b. Nothing against their talent, but they should start small and not try taking on the whole world. It’s impossible! So many VAAers fall under the impression that because their favorite series is being fandubbed that it will actually be complete. Uh, no! It won’t! I’ve seen enough and even auditioned for several myself, but it never happens! And then a n00b will apologize saying that no one turns in their lines and they didn’t have the proper equipment, etc. That’s why I love the adminstrators. Seriously, they make my day by being the online mommies.

     It is also why I admire certain members who deal with n00bs or totally do different or interesting projects. That’s probably why they become so popular among members.

    Despite there being nice members, people can also act like such bitches behind other’s backs. Playing harmless tricks on other members that are just mean. I remember being on a Skype chat and feeling guilty that everyone was trying not to chat with this one person. I felt horrible afterwards for not leaving the chat nor trying to talk to the person myself. I recall thinking, “Wow. You all are just being mean,” yet I did nothing to stop them…

     Another thing about Skype is that there are cliques where if you join a conversation they will be rude and talk about something you have no clue about. Call me Miss Manners Freak, but I was raised under the idea that talking about events or someone or something funny or special in front of others who were not there is rude and excluding them. I always makes me feel left out when people do that on Skype. I feel slightly hurt because I wasn’t there and it seems that my precesence is not important enough to participate in the conversation. Or, my favorite, when you are chatting and someone says, “Yeah, I’m talking to so and so in a group conversation” and you are like, “Um, okay. So am I not welcomed into the conversation?” It’s basically like talking about a party in front of the little kid who wasn’t invited. Seriously Skype is a drama magnet. topleka was a psychic when she said that.

     I guess it’s because I don’t have any confidence at all. On VAA, I am regulary complimented because I am “so nice,” “caring,” “understanding,” “confident,” etc. which is partly true. I do really care about others and I hate seeing someone blame theirselves over stupid things or people always saying that they suck. Um, can we say “downer on my psyche” much? Hello, trying to get attention much. Saying sorry 24/7 will not make people think you are humble or trying to gain attention. Although I always feel bad for someone who unfortunately is ill or hurt themselves or something bad happen, I try not to always say “I’m so sorry” because in reality it is not my fault that happened and I do know people who hate feeling pitied. I would too.

     And about the confidence thing, I don’t have any at all. I hate my singing even though I’ve improved a whole lot. I become so easily embarrassed and I am slightly scared of some VAAers… Yeah… That’s it for my ramble… Ug….

Feeling like Haruhi from Ouran Host Club…. ug…

     What ever happened to my promise that I would write more in this? I guess it just proves I’m even more of a failure than I thought I was. ::sigh::

     Sometimes I feel like I’m Haruhi F. from Ouran High School Host Club. Why? Well, I was put in an ALL male class for Digital Video — it’s not a bad thing (since there are some pretty cute guys (as well as annoying), but it means I have to work by myself. I’m not scared of the guys, it’s just that, well… they are pretty immature sometimes and are wrapped up in doing their own creepy and slightly perverted video innudeos. Yeah… Not something I want to do.

      For example, at the moment they are filming some creepy pedo type video. I really don’t understand it at all. It’s off some show, “How to Catch a Predator…” or something like that… Basically its creepy and weird… But that’s what happens when you’re stuck in a male harlem….

      Maybe I should finish watching OHHC to figure out ways to deal with the creepy/pervertness of the males… Why me sometimes?

     Less than 3 days left until opening night of West Side Story?! I am super pumped up for it! I’m still debating whether or not I should do a girl cast video because the guys’ is just wayyyy to perverted for most of the girls and full of innudeos. I think I might and have an opening like from Juno — “It start with a chair” >>> “It all started with a castlist…” (due to the fact that there was so much controversy since a freshman and sophomore got the lead roles…)

     One thing I hate about the musical is the costumes — sometimes there are good costumes (which I was lucky to get every year) and sometimes there are bad ones. Like mine this year. I have a lab coat and a calico pioneer type dress. Kind of like the dress you could find in Little House on the Prairie or something similiar. It’s that bad… >.<;;; Thank goodness I was able to dig through my clothes and find something that actually looks like it’s from that time period — a Scottish green, blue, and lavender skirt, a light blue sweater top, and of course the lab coat. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my cat glasses soon.
